Our Gospel Mission

Life in Christ, Christ in life

This powerful statement sums up the mission of Jacob's Well: We seek to be a worshiping community that finds all of our life in Jesus Christ and brings Jesus Christ into all of our Life.

Life in christ

What is the gospel? The apostle Paul explains it in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4:

"Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures."

The word "gospel" literally means "good news," and indeed it is. The gospel is the good news of how God has sacrificially reconciled sinners (like us) to Himself. As explained by Paul, the gospel is simply the good news of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that provides full and free deliverance from the power and penalty of sin according to the grace of God alone and through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Dr. Tim Keller explains the gospel this way, "The gospel is that you are more sinful and flawed than you ever dared believe, yet you can be more accepted and loved than you ever dared hope at the same time because Jesus Christ lived and died in your place. Salvation is of the Lord."

Christ in Life

In the beginning, God created everything good, yet because of our sin the world has become plagued with disorder, perversion and frustration. Nothing is the way God intended it to be and God calls us all to be a part of His redemption of the world by:

Applying the gospel to ourselves – Jesus Christ died on the cross to rescue us from both the penalty of sin and the power of sin. As we believe and apply the gospel in our heart, we will find all of our needs satisfied in Christ; we will no longer look to sin, but to Jesus for our delight.

Through the gospel, Jesus is redeeming all of our thoughts, longings, and actions.

Applying the gospel to the world – We are committed to bringing the truth of the gospel to bear on every area of life. In doing so, we trust that God will not only redeem and restore us individually, but also our marriages, families, neighborhoods, work places, city, state, country and world.

We accomplish our mission by being:

  • Gospel-Centered

The gospel changes everything. The gospel is “the power of God” (Romans 1:16) for the transformation of unbelievers and believers. We never advance past the gospel.

  • Scripture-based

The gospel as truth revealed. The Bible is more than a guidebook; it is a living authority that applies to every aspect of our lives. It is through the Scripture that God reveals to us the gospel, which saves the lost and matures the saved.

  • Outward-focused

The gospel makes us a people for others. The gospel frees us not to live for ourselves, but for Christ and therefore, to lay down our lives for our friends, neighbors and associates.

  • Community-building

The gospel creates a new community. The gospel completely transforms our relationships with one another. As a church community, we not only speak the gospel to each other, but we live the gospel through hospitality, mercy, love and kindness.

  • culture-changing

The gospel produces cultural renewal. The gospel has the power to transform the culture of Green Bay by transforming the values and actions of its people. As people seek to align their lives with the truth of the gospel, it will affect how they use their time, gifts and finances.

  • Social-healing

The gospel enables social healing. Whether it is subtle or obvious, sin undermines and erodes the fabric of society and produces racism, sexism and classism by convincing us that we are superior to others. The gospel gets at the root of every social problem by leading us to appreciate and to be somewhat critical of all cultures and classes, including our own.

  • kingdom-focused

The gospel continually breaks out. The gospel does not just have power, it is the power of God (Romans 1:16-17). The Kingdom of God is gradually but relentlessly growing (Matthew. 13:1-23, 11:12). Therefore, we will network and partner with other churches and ministries in the city who desire to see the Kingdom grow through the spread of the gospel.
